ImagineBC Case Study

ImagineBC is going to revolutionize how we control our personal data, using blockchain technology, to provide real income to content creators and individuals while keeping every user’s identifying information totally anonymous. RAKE Digital Company had the privilege of conferencing with Erik H. Rind, the founder and CEO of ImagineBC, to learn more about the concept, method, and future of the technology.

The Concept

How much money do you make on your personal information? When Google sells your search patterns, or 23andMe sells your genetic history, or Facebook sells your demographic and identifying information, do you make a profit? No. In fact, they didn’t even get your permission first. These companies sell your data without your consent and without offering you any cut of the profits.

ImagineBC will change all of that.

What if you could make real money taking surveys and watching advertisements that went straight to your pocket, without allowing those companies to sell the data they require you to submit?

What if you could make real money taking surveys and watching advertisements that went straight to your pocket, without allowing those companies to sell the data they require you to submit?

Twitch and Discord are major platforms for gamers to distribute their intellectual property–tips and tricks for the games they love, live streaming of their gaming experience, and more–while making a small profit from their viewership. YouTube offers the same service for a much wider range of topics, from cooking lessons to cat memes to talk shows and so much more, while offering mere pennies for every dollar it makes. In fact, Twitch takes up to half of the profits from their top content creators while also making steep profits on advertising and monthly “premium” fees.

What if, instead of using third-party websites and losing a significant cut of the profits, you could sell your intellectual property directly to the consumer, completely anonymously?

The Method

With ImagineBC, content creators can sell their content directly to the consumer by applying a small price tag to their content and allowing consumers to purchase it.

For example, say Susan has a great recipe for lemon meringue pie that she wants to share with others. She can offer her recipe to a user for $0.25, and ask for another $0.50 if the user wants to watch a tutorial video on how to make the meringue. ImagineBC offers a generous 70% of the profit right back to Susan for her content, taking 10% for the company and distributing the remaining 20% to the community of users–those who referred her and those who referred the buyer, for example.

Or, say Andy wants to become a better Super Smash Bros Melee player. He can find a variety of videos from streamers and pros on ImagineBC, and purchase them directly from their creators. If he doesn’t have the money to spend on those videos, he can turn to another area of the app and watch an ad or take a survey to make the money he needs to buy the content. He spends none of his own personal funds on the content but instead contributes his opinion or viewership to a business within the community, and in exchange gets the video game tutorials for functionally nothing, all while those who made the videos he purchased gain a small income as well.

What if, instead of using third-party websites and losing a significant cut of the profits, you could sell your intellectual property directly to the consumer, completely anonymously?

ImagineBC is a commercial network: an environment where individuals can buy and sell their personal information, intellectual property, opinions, and experiences, while maintaining their individual privacy. Businesses can purchase a user’s opinion by offering US currency in exchange for taking a survey or participating in a short phone call, without the user sending them personal identifying information that most survey-hosting websites require. Then you, the user, can turn around and spend that money on purchasing content from other users who have offered their intellectual property for sale, or you can simply pocket the income.

Best of all, no one owns or has access to your personal information except you, the user. This is where blockchain technology comes in.

The Technology

Blockchain technology is a rapidly growing new form of storing and maintaining data. The concept behind the blockchain is simple: peer-to-peer accountability is stronger than centralized systems. Imagine a map of computers all distributing data evenly among one another, a web of connections rather than a single ring all connected to one main server. The decentralized approach allows every machine in the system to keep one another accountable for the accuracy of the data, preventing any one node from corrupting the data. When a change is made in the data, every node receives a copy of that change notice, because each independently holds a copy of the data. In this way, access to the data cannot be changed without permission of every node in the system, making it virtually impossible to corrupt or hack the data.

ImagineBC uses this breakthrough technology to allow individuals in the community to maintain total control and ownership of their personal information and content. In fact, ImagineBC itself will never have access to your data except once to verify that your identity is not a duplicate of another user in the server (no one person can have multiple accounts in the system). After this verification, your data is accessible to you alone and can be shared at your full discretion.

Your interactions with other entities in the community, therefore, are completely anonymous. Rather than providing identifying information, your profile will offer two scores that act as an avatar that are unique to you: a TRUST score and a REPUTATION score. Your TRUST score indicates how much you allowed ImagineBC to verify your identity to ensure that you have only one profile in the community. Your REPUTATION score measures how honorably you behave within the community, with a higher score marking a stronger likelihood of being included in money-making transactions in the community.

ImagineBC uses [blockchain] technology to allow individuals in the community to maintain total control and ownership of their personal information and content.

What money-making transactions are available to you? As previously mentioned, your own content can be easily distributed and monetized as a source of income. Additionally, you can “sell” your information to third-party companies seeking your input in focus groups, surveys, one on one interactions, and advertising.

Those third-party companies have access to the ImagineBC community through a platform called BizBase, which hosts a variety of tools for businesses to search for individuals interested in offering their data in exchange for US currency. These tools connect companies directly with the individuals willing to “sell” their opinions, ideas, and information, putting the control back in the hands of its owner.

BizBase can also be used by individual members to market themselves and their content to other community members as well, making the platform a cornerstone of the functionality of the community.

The Plan

Because ImagineBC is a closed loop, referral only community, the membership base will grow exponentially as the technology is released in stages. As of early May 2019, ImagineBC is currently preparing to release phase 1 in mid-June to a small number of family, friends, and associates. In phase 2, release to a larger group of individuals will test the marketing message that the marketing and advertising teams have been developing, preparing for the general release. Phase 3 is general release, which is expected to occur in early fall. In the general release, ImagineBC will begin inviting 20 million plus contacts through their partners, including staffing agencies, labor organizations, and influencers in business and social media.

Although full details are confidential, we are confident that the plan for rollout and onboarding of new members is well-planned and thorough. The future of the technology is very promising.

So, where does RAKE Digital Company come in?

ImagineBC was born from the HCM industry (human capital management, such as HR and payroll), which is where RAKE Digital got its start. ImagineBC is hosted by RAKE Digital on the cloud powered by Microsoft Azure. Craig Eversole, Partner and Chief Technology Officer, along with the RAKE Digital cloud engineering team, built the cloud architecture that supports and hosts the ImagineBC software. RAKE Digital is the groundwork for ImagineBC as a whole: built and maintained through our Managed DevOps service, hosted on our Managed Azure CSP Platform, and 24x7 monitored and supported.

We are thrilled to be a cornerstone of this cutting-edge technology that will change the very foundations of how people do business online.
